It’s Me, Mom

Since welcoming my first child in 2013, I have been a huge fan of the community we’ve built here at Home Insemination Kit. I can still picture those early days, lying on the couch during maternity leave, watching reality TV with my newborn nestled against me, all while scrolling through social media and laughing at the relatable content we shared.

What I’ve always loved about this space is its ability to reach out to the relatable mom: the friend who’s witty and straightforward about life’s challenges. This platform has consistently showcased the voices of mothers willing to share their journeys, who are honest about the struggles and joys, and who care deeply not just for their children, but for yours too. Home Insemination Kit has helped me confront truths I might not have acknowledged without its support.

The last few years have been particularly tough for mothers, especially with the ongoing challenges brought on by the pandemic. We’ve faced countless breaking points yet have been urged to keep pushing forward, often with little substantial support from those in authority. We’ve cried out for help, only to be met with phrases like “you’re doing great, sweetie.”

Through this lens of exhaustion and uncertainty, we are proud to reintroduce Home Insemination Kit. You’ll notice a fresh, modern look, but our essence remains unchanged. I’m committed to bringing you raw, honest accounts of motherhood, relationships, mental health, and much more, while also addressing the topics that matter to you as women (gasp) navigating life.

I’ve been reflecting on those yard signs that have become increasingly popular in recent years. You know the ones: “In this house, we believe…” While they can sometimes feel like a competition for who’s more progressive, at their core, they express values. So, here’s what we stand for at Home Insemination Kit:

  • We believe in the power of laughter.
  • We believe in keeping a sense of humor about everything.
  • We believe every woman should define her own path to motherhood.
  • We recognize that motherhood is one of the toughest unpaid roles.
  • We believe in the strength of community.

These are indeed unusual times, and as we navigate this new phase together, I assure you that this will remain a welcoming space for you. When I took on the role of Editor-in-Chief, my younger son, who is in kindergarten, said, out of the blue, “you’re a scary mommy now, mommy.” Well, he was right, but I’ve always been that way in spirit.

Emily is the Editor-in-Chief at Home Insemination Kit, dedicated to bringing you the content you love daily. Before joining this team, she spent over a decade at various publications, including a major parenting platform, where she oversaw numerous features on family and lifestyle. Hailing from New York, she’s a proud mom of two energetic boys, sharing her journey with her partner. They don’t have pets yet, but that’s likely on the horizon.
