Who doesn’t appreciate a charming canine cameo during a workday? Local weather forecasts are often a staple for planning outdoor activities—even if they sometimes miss the mark. However, the presence of a dog can make the experience far more enjoyable. Last week, Chief Meteorologist at Global News Canada, Kevin Blake, was delivering Toronto’s weekend weather report when his Goldendoodle, Rain, made a surprise appearance to assist him (pun intended).
Rain, the adorable pooch, appeared completely at ease jumping in to lend a paw to his owner, which isn’t surprising given that this isn’t his first time on set. “Last Friday, a treat-hungry Rain strolled onto the set in the midst of Kevin’s weather update, demanding snacks while he explained to viewers the upcoming weekend weather and discussed the potential impact of Hurricane Ida further south,” said the video description.
It turns out Rain is quite the regular during Kevin’s forecasts, and why wouldn’t he be? Hearing that your weekend BBQ might be rained out is far more tolerable when there’s a cute dog in the mix. Kevin has been bringing Rain to work for over a decade, and the pup roams freely around the studio because he’s such a Very Good Boy.
“Both professionals in their own right, Kevin smoothly wrapped up his segment while Rain satisfied his snack cravings (and posed for the camera)… just another day at the office!” read the caption, and viewers agreed: Rain can be seen searching for treats, frolicking about, and just generally having a doggone great time, thrilled to be with his human.
According to a 2018 article from Canadian Dogs, Global News made Rain a staple on Kevin’s weather updates after a clip of his playful antics went viral in 2012. Rain has garnered a bit of fame on social media, boasting his own Instagram account where you can keep up with him when he’s not busy reporting the weather. “I’m a mini goldendoodle with a big smile & an even bigger personality. You can find me at charity events, schools, and in the evenings on @globalnews,” his bio states.
In fact, the news channel even introduced a “dog walking forecast” in 2017, where Kevin provides tips on the best times to take your furry friend out for a stroll. “I love having him with me because it beats leaving him home alone,” he shared with Pawsh Magazine. “It makes those longer workdays much more bearable knowing he’s happy by my side. He always gives me a much-needed break, whether it’s a quick cuddle or a push to get some fresh air during the day.”
We fully support this idea and believe every newscaster should have their pets alongside them while they work. For more insights on parenting and home insemination, check out our other blog post.

In summary, the delightful presence of Rain during Kevin Blake’s weather forecasts has transformed the viewing experience for many. His playful antics and charm not only brighten up the segments but also create a heartwarming connection with the audience.
