A bat wreaks havoc in the O’Sullivan household.
What started as an ordinary Monday evening for Liam and Fiona O’Sullivan in County Kerry, Ireland, quickly spiraled into a comedic disaster. It all began when Fiona opened the back door to let their new puppy, Charlie, out for a bathroom break. Suddenly, a bat swooped into their home, leading to a hilariously chaotic scene that left viewers in stitches.
Their son, Finn, captured the entire ordeal on camera, expertly edited it, and shared it on Facebook. Since its debut, the video has racked up over 1.3 million views. Warning: there’s some colorful language due to the unexpected guest in the kitchen.
In his post, Finn wrote: “Last night, a bat flew into our house… let’s just say it was handled with utmost grace and decorum #goGetEmLiam #puppyPanic”
At first, we were a bit concerned about the strategy, given that the dish towel appeared far too small for the task of safely capturing a bat. “But the bat is small too,” you might argue? Not at all! Every bat is essentially a large terrifying creature when it’s flapping around in a frenzy. We would have felt much safer with a fishing net, a pool skimmer, or perhaps just knocking down a wall to usher the bat outside.
Fortunately, Liam soon realized a bigger tool was necessary and grabbed one of Fiona’s freshly laundered towels to aid in the capture. Finn cheered on his dad, exclaiming, “That’s it! Bigger towel! Now, go get him!”
As for Fiona, she decided to take cover behind the kitchen pantry door, and honestly, we can’t blame her. When you consider that bats, in their wild panic, might get stuck in your hair, we’d be hesitant too. We might have resorted to hiding with a bottle of ketchup, playing dead.
Moments later, Finn also retreated behind a door, filming through the glass while offering his father encouragement. “You’re doing great! Keep it up, Liam!” And Liam was indeed doing a commendable job, jumping around and standing on chairs, all in an effort to reclaim his home from this unexpected intruder. However, as Finn aptly noted at one point, “He’s making a mockery of you, Dad!”
Just when things couldn’t get any crazier, little Charlie the puppy became so overwhelmed he decided to relieve himself right there: “Dad, the dog’s peeing!” Finn shouted. Poor Charlie—what a whirlwind he was caught in! With only his dad around, it was clear he was the next target for the bat’s antics. We might have lost control too!
After what we later found out was a ten-minute struggle, we finally witnessed a triumphant Liam, proudly waving the bat out the door with the towel. How did he avoid those sharp little teeth? Maybe he didn’t. Perhaps Liam is now a vampire. We might need a follow-up video to see if he casts a reflection in the mirror or can resist garlic at noon.
Kudos to Liam for his bravery, especially considering he had no assistance from a hiding wife, an encouraging son behind a door, and a terrified puppy.
