Black Friday can turn even the most civil shoppers into a chaotic mob, as evidenced by the mayhem at a Nike outlet that was left in shambles due to overly enthusiastic consumers. A photograph taken prior to the sales revealed a neatly arranged store, but that quickly changed as eager customers ravaged the aisles.
Local resident, Tom Richards, had popped in for a quick purchase of sneakers for his children and was taken aback by the scene. “I thought there was an earthquake,” he described to BuzzFeed. It appeared that bargain-hungry shoppers were ripping boxes off the shelves with little regard for the disarray they were causing.
Another customer, who expressed his frustrations on Twitter, elaborated on the chaos: “Seeing little kids kicking things aside without care – that bothered me,” remarked Greg Henson (@GregHenson). “Parents were navigating through the mess, and the kids were just as wild.”
Richards noted, “As we moved from aisle to aisle, we were stepping over orange boxes scattered everywhere. People were carelessly kicking items out of their way.” One store employee estimated that around 20,000 customers flooded the store during the Black Friday hours, which ran from 8 PM Thanksgiving evening until 10 PM Friday. It was a staggering number, reminiscent of the chaos depicted in classic arcade games like Rampage.
In a humorous comparison, an employee likened the frenzy to a scene from Jurassic Park, remarking, “No one was returning things to their rightful places the entire time we were open.” It’s clear that Black Friday brings out a more primal side in far too many individuals.
