In a deeply emotional segment on his show, television host Alex Carter revealed the heartbreaking news that his five-month-old son, Leo, has passed away due to a brain tumor. Leo, whom Alex welcomed with his partner Mia Johnson in June 2021, succumbed to the illness over the weekend.

During the poignant announcement on his daytime talk show, Carter struggled to hold back tears as he shared the devastating details. “This weekend, I lost my youngest son to a condition called hydrocephalus, which is essentially a malignant brain tumor,” he disclosed, reflecting on his pain.

Hydrocephalus is characterized by an accumulation of cerebrospinal fluid in or around the brain. In Leo’s case, the condition required a shunt to alleviate pressure in the brain by draining the excess fluid into the abdominal cavity, where it could be absorbed. Alex recounted how he became concerned about Leo’s health a couple of months after his birth when he noticed signs of respiratory distress and an unusually large head.

“I noticed he had a persistent cough and unusual breathing patterns. By the time Leo was two months old, his head had grown quite large — I affectionately called it a ‘Carter head.’ We initially thought it was a routine checkup,” Alex shared.

After consulting with a doctor, it was revealed that Leo’s head size was a result of fluid buildup, and he underwent emergency surgery that summer. Tragically, Alex noted that Leo’s condition deteriorated significantly around Thanksgiving.

“The situation escalated quickly. Ultimately, it was determined to be brain cancer, and the tumor began to grow at an alarming rate,” Alex explained.

He shared that he made a special effort to spend quality time with Leo during his final days. “On Sunday, we went to the beach together, and I was preparing for what I thought would be a normal day. I had to turn around on the way to the airport, as it became clear something was seriously wrong.”

Leo passed away shortly thereafter, at just five months old. He was the youngest of Alex’s children, and his mother, Mia, has not yet made a public statement.

As Alex fought back tears during his announcement, the studio audience responded with an outpouring of support and empathy, sharing in his grief and offering comfort. “This is a special episode dedicated to my beautiful son,” he said, honoring Leo’s memory.

The heartache faced by Alex and Mia is unimaginable, and many are sending their love to the grieving parents during this incredibly difficult time. We also commend Alex for bravely expressing his emotions on live television.
