Target continues to impress us with its commitment to sustainability! The retail giant is now accepting old car seats for recycling, offering a fantastic way to contribute to the environment while also getting a discount on a new car seat.
Event Details
From Monday, April 17th to Sunday, April 30th, simply bring your used car seat to any Target location across the country, and you’ll receive a 20% off coupon applicable to any of their car seats until May 31st. In celebration of Earth Day on April 22nd, Target has partnered with TerraCycle, a leading firm in recycling hard-to-manage waste. They will transform these old car seats into various products, such as bags and office supplies—definitely not just more car seats!
Why Recycle Your Car Seat?
Getting rid of used car seats can be quite a hassle; it’s hard to feel good about tossing that hefty piece of plastic in the trash. While there are a few recycling initiatives, they’re rare. For example, Toys R Us has a semi-annual Great Trade-In event, which has seen over a million car seats exchanged. Similarly, Legacy Health in Portland recycled over 6 tons of car seats in 2014. With this new campaign, Target aims to collect more than 700,000 pounds of materials that would otherwise end up in landfills.
Program Expansion
Following a successful trial at 90 stores last September, Target decided to extend this program. According to a report from Fox 31 Denver, collection bins will be located in the baby section or near the front of the store—just find a team member to receive your discount coupon. While the image of overflowing bins might be a bit daunting, we trust Target has everything under control.
We absolutely adore this initiative! So prepare your old car seat for next week’s event.
