Even though my daughter has only been exploring the world for a year, she has imparted some remarkable insights. Here’s what I’ve learned from her:
- Celebrate your successes. Give a round of applause after every bite of food. Encourage others to join in; you’re a superstar at eating!
- Greet everyone with a wave. Yes, every single person you encounter. Wave at your own reflection, the smiling face on the paper towel package, and even that flower painting. Make the world feel a little brighter.
- Investigate your fingers. Seriously, take a good look. They’re incredible! And don’t forget your toes! Go ahead, offer a nibble of them to the person next to you. They’ll love it.
- When you kiss, do it with your mouth wide open. The more drool, the merrier!
- Dance whenever you hear music. Even if there’s no music, feel free to bust a move! They say to “dance like no one’s watching,” but honestly, it’s much more fun to dance until everyone is.
- Get excited when encountering a dog! Point and laugh; dogs are hilarious! Have you ever seen one?
- Smile as big as you can! Food in your mouth? Seven teeth? Who cares—smile anyway!
- If you enjoy a book, read it over and over. And again. And again… until it’s memorized. Once you know it by heart, keep reading it. It’s a great book!
- If you dislike the taste of something, spit it out. Life’s too short for yucky foods.
- Surprise people with hugs. You never know when someone might really need one.
- Redecorate frequently. Those couch pillows? They look better on the floor. That kitchen towel? Definitely a floor accessory. And that neatly folded laundry? Yup, you guessed it—floor!
- Life is a game of peek-a-boo. I see you!
- You can choose your friends, pick your nose, and even your friend’s nose! Don’t let others limit your choices.
- Embrace your body. Stick out that belly and wear clothes that highlight your curves.
- No matter how many times someone pulls you away from that bowl of dog food, crawl back to it when they’re not looking. Persistence is key!
So next time life gives you lemons, why not throw them on the floor? That’s the toddler way! They truly have a unique perspective on life.
