Bella Carter recently shared a snapshot on her Instagram that simply read, “It’s gonna be a long night.” The image featured her daughter, Ava, dressed in a princess gown, surrounded by an assortment of toys in what appears to be her very own walk-in closet.

Two observations: 1) It’s reassuring to know that another parent has a child who also struggles with bedtime, and 2) that closet is pure magic. A collection of tutus? A Minnie Mouse costume? A Hello Kitty suitcase? Who wouldn’t dream of having such treasures at their fingertips?

Surprisingly, I noticed that none of the usual parenting critics had yet to flood the comments with chastisements about Ava being awake so late. I expected at least a few to chime in. Then again, the post had only been up for a few hours, so there’s still time for the bedtime police to arrive. I find this topic particularly contentious because my own children are often awake well past bedtime.

It’s not that they never sleep; rather, there are those random nights where they stay up late, leaving me to question my parenting decisions, especially regarding sleep training. I was the parent who couldn’t bear to hear my little ones cry, and now I’m facing the consequences. At least once a week, my kids are up until the wee hours, while my previously smug friends, who I used to tease for being so rigid about their children’s schedules, are enjoying quiet evenings without kids climbing all over them. As for me? Well, let’s just say my situation is quite different.

Clearly, Bella hasn’t enforced a strict sleep routine for Ava either. Or perhaps she’s permitting Ava to enjoy a little late-night fun. Maybe she’s hiding from her husband’s latest social media outburst. Honestly, the possibilities are endless.

All I know is that this little girl is adorable, and I wouldn’t mind having her closet!
