Mark your calendars! Season 5 of ‘Queer Eye’ is set to premiere on Netflix on June 5, 2020. After a whirlwind of seasons, the Fab Five is back to remind us that there’s still goodness in the world. I have to admit, there was a moment when I felt a bit overwhelmed by the quick succession of seasons—four full seasons plus a special in Japan left me a little dazed. It was challenging to keep up with Antoni, Bobby, Karamo, Jonathan, and Tan, but now, as we navigate these challenging times, I’m craving the heartwarming and uplifting content that ‘Queer Eye’ delivers.
Exciting news came via Twitter on May 14, 2020: “This Gayflower couldn’t hit land soon enough! Who’s ready for the season of brotherly love?!?! Grab your oars and an absorbent box of tissues because Queer Eye Season 5 is arriving in Philly, June 5th!” This season is particularly special; it will feature 10 episodes, a first for the series. While we don’t yet have a trailer or many details, the resident chef, Antoni, shared insights with Entertainment Weekly, mentioning that this season aims to embrace even greater diversity than before.
“We’re able to continue to champion diversity,” Antoni explained. “With Philadelphia, it’s a lot more cosmopolitan… we do have a lot more downtown stories.” The city’s rich array of experiences offers a fresh perspective that reflects various cultural backgrounds and age groups.
While we’ve enjoyed Antoni’s “Quar Eye: Cooking Lessons in Quarantine” videos, nothing compares to the emotional depth and production quality of the show. In these unsettling times, I find myself longing to hear Jonathan whispering self-care affirmations to someone discovering moisturizer for the first time. Just three more weeks until we can dive back into the warmth of ‘Queer Eye!
