Attention fans! After years of anticipation, ‘The Nanny’ is now available for streaming on HBO Max, and we couldn’t be more thrilled. Fran Fine, the beloved character from Flushing, Queens, is set to grace our screens once again, with all her charm and humor. Starting April 1, you can binge-watch Miss Fine, Mr. Sheffield, Niles the butler, Cece Babcock, Sylvia, Yeta, and the Sheffield kids whenever you want.
For those who might need a little reminder (how could you forget?), ‘The Nanny’ aired from 1993 to 1999. Fran Drescher portrayed the stylish bridal saleswoman who unexpectedly became the nanny for the Sheffield children. Her wit, laughter, and unique perspective brought joy to the family, while the slow-burn romance between her and Mr. Sheffield kept audiences engaged. The ensemble cast, including Niles, Cece, and the Sheffield kids, made the show an absolute delight.
Fran Drescher herself announced the news on Instagram, radiating positivity: “We coming to HBOMAX WooHoo!!! 4/1/21 GO!” she wrote. Back in April 2020, she shared her thoughts with E! News, suggesting that Fran and Max would still be happily married today, perhaps with Fran diving into the world of fashion blogging or local politics, always advocating for the underdog.
Exciting News Ahead!
And there’s more exciting news! Drescher is currently working on adapting the show into a Broadway musical, alongside her ex-husband and co-creator Peter Marc Jacobson and Rachel Bloom of Crazy Ex-Girlfriend. What a fantastic way to welcome people back to the theater! “Peter had this brilliant concept of Fran and Max returning to New York because he missed Broadway, and Fran suggests they make a show about their lives,” she explained.
In a year that has been challenging for many, this nostalgic series brings some much-needed joy. With the Broadway adaptation on the horizon, we have plenty to look forward to while enjoying the original series. As the iconic theme song says, “Who would have guessed that the girl we described was just exactly what the doctor prescribed?”
