Last night, Saturday Night Live delivered a night of laughs, with Keegan-Michael Key showcasing his impressive comedic skills. The show kicked off with a musical number, and later, Key starred in a memorable parody of the popular Michael Jordan documentary, The Last Dance. However, it was the skit featuring The Muppets that had everyone—viewers and cast alike—bursting into laughter.
The Muppet Show Sketch
In the sketch, Kermit the Frog, played by Key, was hosting The Muppet Show alongside Melissa Villaseñor‘s impression of Lily Tomlin. The fun took a turn when the iconic hecklers, Statler and Waldorf, chimed in from the balcony.
“Friends, our show tonight is gonna be a blast!” Kermit announced. “Yeah, ‘cuz it’s a bomb!” Statler shot back, prompting Key and cast member Kenan Thompson to step in as overly serious security guards.
“Hey! Shut up!” Thompson yelled at the hecklers, but they persisted. Key warned, “I’m not gonna tell you again, fellas. What happens next is up to you.” When Waldorf pointed out that the show was bad, Key retorted, “Then you are more than welcome to leave!”
Things escalated when Key decided to join the hecklers in the balcony, leading to a wild twist where he comically attacked Statler. The sight of Statler returning with swollen purple eyes sent Thompson into fits of laughter. The hilarity continued as the security guards realized the Muppets lacked legs and apologized, saying, “Oh, snap! We didn’t realize you guys didn’t have no legs.” They then joined in the heckling, calling Kermit “Kramer,” much to the audience’s delight.
Parody of The Last Dance
In another standout skit, Key portrayed Michael Jordan in a parody of The Last Dance, where he engaged in a hysterical coin toss bet with Heidi Gardner‘s character. Other cast members joined in with spot-on portrayals, with Chris Redd as Dennis Rodman and Thompson as Charles Barkley, delivering more laughs as they referenced the competitive spirit of Jordan.
