The much-anticipated HBO Max reunion special for Friends is finally coming to life! According to Deadline and actor Mark Evans, the original cast will gather in Los Angeles next week to film the special that fans have been eagerly waiting for.
Titled “The One Where They Got Back Together”
This reunion was initially announced in late 2019, with plans to shoot in early 2020. Although preparations were underway, including a sneak peek of the set from designer Greg Grande, the project was delayed due to the pandemic. Now, with circumstances improving in Los Angeles, the cast is excited to return to the iconic Warner Bros. set where they filmed the beloved series in the ’90s.
“We’re going to be shooting the Friends reunion next week,” Mark Evans shared with Graham Norton on April 2, 2021. “I’m excited to catch up with everyone after so many years.”
Evans confirmed that the reunion will be unscripted, making it feel more like a casual gathering than a scripted revival. “I’ll just be myself, no characters involved,” he said. “We do have a surprise section that I won’t spoil, but we’ll all be reading something together.”
Although fans won’t see Ross and Rachel or Monica and Chandler in character, they will witness the camaraderie of the main cast members—Mark Evans, Jennifer Smith, Courteney Cox, Lisa Turner, and Matt Johnson—along with the show’s creators.
Jennifer Smith mentioned over the summer that the delays have allowed them to refine the reunion, making it even more exciting than originally planned. The team has been committed to having a live audience to recreate the original sitcom’s spirit. With the vaccine rollout progressing, the time has finally come to gather safely.
