Aside from regular showers, of course! Despite my consistent efforts to keep clean, certain items in my home still emit odors potent enough to make me flee the scene. I’m sure many of you can relate to the challenge of vanquishing smells from gym bags, sneakers, and even your family vehicle. And since my financial windfall from that money tree I planted back in 2009 has yet to materialize, replacing these items isn’t an option. Plus, there’s zero chance I’ll enforce rules like “No snacking in the car!” when driving through busy traffic; it’s just not in my nature.
I absolutely detest the scent of artificial air fresheners that promise to smell like fresh citrus or mountain air, as they usually just trigger a headache. I’d nearly prefer the foul odor of sweat-stained sneakers to those synthetic fragrances.
After my partner’s gym bag turned our hallway into a no-go zone, I decided it was time for a solution. On a whim, I ordered some odor eliminators that are fragrance-free and don’t involve spraying unpleasant things into the air. And guess what? They actually worked! I placed them in my workout shoes, under the car seats, and in that infamous gym bag, and I was pleasantly surprised by the results. They effectively absorbed excess moisture (yuck, I know) and tackled many of those nasty smells.
While some odors may be beyond redemption, I was impressed enough to search for more charcoal-based odor absorbers. I found some larger ones that seem to work better in bigger areas like my car, bathroom (seriously, why do guys spray everywhere?), and closets.
I’m not saying they perform miracles, but they definitely prevent me from gagging every time I walk past the laundry room or hop in the car on a hot day. Therefore, I consider this a win and money well spent. I hope this helps fellow parents who are also holding their noses when picking up after their little athletes or entering their teens’ messy rooms.
