As a mom of twins, I’ve heard it all: the logistical inquiries, unsolicited advice, and those comments that leave us rolling our eyes. You know the ones—like when someone says, “Wow, you’ve got your hands full!” or asks if your boy/girl twins are identical or fraternal. While these repetitive remarks can sometimes be tiresome, they often turn into a source of humor and bonding for us exhausted twin moms. Here are five of the funniest things I’ve encountered on this wild journey:

How about lunch or coffee? Bring the twins along!
I can picture it: two friends sipping lattes while our twins sit quietly in high chairs, coloring away. In my dreams, this happens effortlessly, with snacks and toys keeping them entertained. But in reality, I spend half the time in a restroom changing diapers and the other half trying to manage their requests to escape those high chairs. Typically, I manage to have about two minutes of actual adult conversation. So forgive me if I laugh a little too hard when you suggest meeting up somewhere without an enclosed play area or a built-in babysitter. -
What’s tougher: caring for twins or two kids close in age?
Believe me, I know what’s more challenging. While I respect the struggles of moms with kids born close together, there’s no denying that managing two infants at once is a whole different ballgame. My friend once put it perfectly: “The only thing more challenging than twin infants is triplets.” So when you ask me this, I’ll nod and say, “I don’t know! Both must be really tough!” But inside, I’m thinking that’s a blatant untruth. -
Are they sleeping through the night?
No, they are not. And while I chuckle through my response, I can’t help but wonder why this is the most popular question about having twins. Surely, people understand how complex sleep training is for just one child. With twins, the odds of both sleeping soundly for a full night are nearly nonexistent. A more relevant question would be, “How many times do they wake up at night?” If I say two or fewer, that’s a win! -
Which one is the more challenging child?
Hmm, which hour are we talking about? Twins often feed off one another’s energy, making it hard to pinpoint a single instigator. They might have conflicting habits that drive me up the wall—one never sleeps while the other whines incessantly. The answer to this question changes based on the time of day. Ask me in the morning, and I’ll say it’s the one who kept me up all night. By afternoon, it might be the one who’s testing my patience. -
We’d love to babysit for you one night!
And I’d love for us to remain friends. While I know you mean well and think you can handle twins for a few hours, you really have no idea what you’re signing up for. Imagine a scenario where one has a poopsplosion while the other runs around recklessly. Do you want to be the one deciding whether to attend to the bloody child or the poopy one first? This is why I’ll graciously pretend to accept your offer but probably won’t call you for a date night.
It’s all about perspective; these comments can be hilarious to moms of twins.
