Recently, Texas A&M hosted a controversial event aimed at introducing football concepts to women, which turned out to be a glaring misstep. The event, dubbed “Chalk Talk for Women,” charged attendees $80 but ended up being a showcase of outdated and sexist stereotypes, led by assistant coaches Mark Thompson and Dan Winters.

In an apparent effort to cater to their female audience, the coaches altered the lyrics of the school’s fight song to make it more relatable to women. The reimagined version, as reported by various media outlets, included lines like, “We are Aggie women, filled with estrogen.” This tone implied that women’s understanding of sports is inherently limited. The lyrics continued with phrases such as, “We’re putting down our dish towels and taking off our gloves,” reinforcing outdated gender roles.

The presentation escalated from there, as the coaches used slides filled with inappropriate and sexualized explanations of football fundamentals. One slide suggested, “Get erect. Stay erect. Bang him hard,” which showcased a complete lack of awareness regarding the audience’s expectations. Attendees, including local sports commentator Julia Bennett, expressed their outrage at the event’s tone and content, with Bennett stating, “I’m not just disappointed; I’m furious.”

Following the backlash, the coaches were suspended without pay for two weeks and mandated to complete community service. A more productive solution would be to enroll them in courses on gender studies available at Texas A&M, allowing them to gain a better understanding of their audience.
