Is there anything that can hold back Simone Biles? It appears not. Despite uncertainties surrounding the Tokyo Olympics, the event is set to proceed this summer. As the world’s top athletes complete their qualification events, Biles has once again demonstrated her prowess at the U.S. National Championship gymnastics competition, where she has shattered records yet again.

Biles has secured her seventh national title, surpassing the previous record held by six-time champion Clara Schroth-Lomady, officially earning her status as the most decorated gymnast in U.S. history. Her victory wasn’t just a narrow win; she dominated the competition, finishing almost five full points ahead of her nearest rival. Sunisa Lee, a gold medalist from the 2019 Worlds team, took second place, while 2018 Pacific Rim Championships winner Jordan Chiles came in third. Jade Carey, who has already secured a spot for the upcoming Olympics, placed sixth.

Biles excelled in the floor, vault, and balance beam events during the championship. Interestingly, she opted not to perform her signature Yurchenko double pike vault, which she had recently debuted as the first female gymnast to accomplish it in competition. Nevertheless, her routines were so complex and scored so highly that she didn’t need the vault to clinch her title. Her floor routine featured one of her signature two-flip, three-twist maneuvers that has been aptly named “The Biles.”

“It’s truly emotional, especially as I prepare for my second Olympic run,” Biles expressed to reporters following her landmark win. “It’s surreal, and I really appreciate everyone who came out to support us, especially after the challenging year we’ve endured.”

Looking ahead, Biles will next compete in the official Olympic trials, where the top two all-around competitors will earn a place in the Games. Given her stellar season, there’s little doubt that Biles is on track for her second Olympic appearance. As our nation’s most celebrated gymnast, she’s the perfect representative for the U.S. team, and fans can expect her to perform with the same passion and skill that she demonstrated in her last Olympic outing.
