Never Be the Same Again by Jenna Parker

A friend of mine welcomed her first child just a month after I had my second. Since then, she has been sharing on social media how drastically her life has changed since becoming a mother. She often mentions her back pain, the struggle of carrying around an extra ten pounds, and she asked me, “When will I feel like myself again?”

I responded honestly: NEVER. You will never be the same.

  • Your back will always ache a bit.
  • Your breasts may never fully regain their former shape.
  • Your belly might always have that little pooch.
  • Your hips will likely remain a bit wider.
  • And your hair, skin, and even bladder control will not return to how they once were, whether it’s for the better or worse.

Sleep? That won’t be the same either. You may find yourself living in nursing bras for an extended period. Privacy in the bathroom will become a distant memory for a few years. You’ll talk about diapers and poop more often than you ever thought possible. Crumb-free floors? A thing of the past. Wearing something free of stains may not happen for quite a while.

You might not indulge in regular manicures or haircuts like you used to. Daily chores like laundry and dishes may go unfinished. Yes, all of that is accurate.

But what I didn’t share with her is this:

  • Your smile will be fuller than ever.
  • Your laughter will radiate joy.
  • Your eyes will shine brighter.
  • Your arms will feel fuller.
  • And your heart? It will overflow with love.

So, yes, after bringing a child (or more) into the world, you will never be the same again. But that’s perfectly okay, because you won’t want to go back to who you were.

In summary, motherhood transforms you in ways you never imagined, and while you may miss certain aspects of your old self, the love and joy that come with it are irreplaceable.
