Dear Little Ones,
As parents, we often focus on teaching you essential safety lessons — like looking both ways before you cross the street or steering clear of hot surfaces and strange animals. Yet, there are other important lessons that, while not as urgent, still matter greatly for your happiness. I sometimes assume you know these things instinctively, but based on your reactions, it seems a little parental wisdom could go a long way. Here are a few crucial insights I’ve inadvertently overlooked:
-
Embrace Naptime.
Naps are not something to resist; they are a gift. When someone suggests you cozy up in your bed in the middle of the day, take it as an opportunity rather than a punishment. Naps are a luxury, and once you realize that, you might greet the phrase “Let’s take a nap!” with excitement instead of a dramatic meltdown. -
Grooming is a Treat.
You often protest when I trim your hair or clip your nails, acting as if I’m trying to torture you. Yet, these activities are known as manicures, pedicures, and haircuts — services that adults pay for! Remember, you have a personal stylist available at all times, so why not enjoy it? -
Laundry is Magical.
You might think laundry is some kind of wizardry. You toss your dirty clothes into the hamper, and somehow they reappear clean and ready to wear. Understand that this is an incredible service that takes time and effort, so appreciate it! Plus, you have someone assembling daily outfits for you — a convenience you should recognize and value. -
You Have a Personal Chef.
Let’s take a moment to appreciate the fact that you never have to worry about meal planning or grocery shopping. Your job is simply to sit at the table when called, and voilà! There’s a meal waiting for you. I even blow on your food to make sure it’s cool enough to eat, sacrificing my own meal in the process. Maybe think about that next time you grumble about what’s on your plate. -
Transportation is Stress-Free.
You’ve never had to navigate through traffic or hunt for parking spaces. Instead, you can enjoy the ride, whether you’re listening to music, reading a book, or just daydreaming. You don’t have to tip or schedule your rides; you’re lucky enough to have a chauffeur (me!) who handles all the logistics.
I hope this letter helps you appreciate the many comforts you enjoy. You have a team of people working tirelessly to provide you with luxuries that many wish they had. So, take a moment to be grateful for the personal chef, laundry service, and chauffeur in your life. Don’t wait until you’re older and these perks are gone — recognize their value now.
You’re welcome.
Love,
Mommy
