Finding a trustworthy caregiver for your children can be daunting. Parents want someone who is compassionate, reliable, nurturing, and when necessary, able to confront potential thieves trying to steal from their home. Wait, really?
One package thief got much more than she anticipated when she attempted to swipe a delivery from a family’s doorstep and encountered a vigilant nanny instead. The entire incident was captured by the home’s outdoor surveillance camera, and you won’t believe your eyes.
The footage shows a woman leaping out of the passenger side of a vehicle in Everett, Washington, on a Tuesday and sprinting toward the front porch of a residence. Moments later, she returns to the car, struggling to carry a large package. That’s when the family’s nanny, known as “Super Nanny” (or Sarah Mitchell), can be heard shouting, “HEY! What do you think you’re doing? You better not be stealing that!”
And just like that, the drama unfolded. The getaway driver, witnessing the scene, decided to abandon their partner in crime and sped off, leaving the thief behind as she stumbled while trying to get into the moving vehicle with the stolen item. It was a dramatic exit, to say the least.
As the camera continued to roll, the woman attempted to flee but was quickly apprehended by Super Nanny, who expertly escorted her back toward the house like a seasoned officer. The would-be thief protested, shouting, “Get off of me!” but Mitchell remained unfazed.
Incredibly, she held the package thief in the family’s garage for eight minutes while waiting for law enforcement to arrive. “If someone is doing something wrong, I’m not afraid to put them in check,” Mitchell told a local news station.
“She’s absolutely amazing. She doesn’t take nonsense from anyone,” remarked Lisa Brown, the homeowner, to KIRO. Brown’s one-year-old son, surprisingly, slept through the entire commotion. “What she did was incredible, and honestly, I’m not shocked,” she added.
Local authorities advised against confronting burglars, mentioning that it was fortunate no one was harmed in this incident. They also hinted they’re currently hiring, perhaps in case nannying becomes too risky for Mitchell in the future.
