Let me tell you, my family is all about streaming. If you’re not familiar with it, “Vivo” is an animated musical adventure featuring a talented kinkajou (a rainforest “honey bear”) on a mission to deliver a song to his owner’s lost love. Along the way, he meets a spirited girl named Gabi, who insists on helping him.
When she’s not watching the movie on Netflix, my daughter is either streaming the music videos on YouTube or dancing to the soundtrack in the shower. Normally, this kind of repetition would drive me up the wall. I mean, come on! We have access to so many shows, and she insists on rewatching the same one? It’s frustrating!
But here’s the thing: I don’t feel that same irritation when it comes to “Vivo.” It’s refreshing to enjoy a movie alongside my daughter.
I typically prefer to watch something once and move on, but rewatching “Vivo” has been a surprisingly delightful experience. The film is fantastic, and Ynairaly Simo’s portrayal of Gabi is nothing short of spectacular. Not to mention, Brian Tyree Henry is also in it, which is a bonus! And yes, Missy Elliot’s song “My Own Drum” is a total jam.
As a single mom trying to build my business at home, life has been tough lately. I constantly worry about finances and the need for more space, especially with three strong women under one roof. Plus, sending my daughter back to school during this ongoing pandemic adds another layer of anxiety.
