Having been pregnant four times, I’ve experienced firsthand the remarkable transformations my body undergoes. Growing a little one inside of me is nothing short of extraordinary, and while it’s easy to focus on the belly, let’s not forget about the other areas needing attention—specifically, the breasts. I still wanted a little lift and shape, but options were severely lacking.
When breasts are unsupported, especially during pregnancy, it can exacerbate discomfort in other areas of the body. Many pregnant women already deal with back pain from carrying their growing baby. Adding an ill-fitting bra into the mix only amplifies these aches.
So, what gives? Designers seem to pour creativity into maternity tops with their cute ruched sides, and there are a plethora of pants with a variety of fits and fabrics. Yet, finding a decent maternity bra feels like an uphill battle. Who do I need to contact about this? Is there a council for bra manufacturers? Perhaps a support group for pregnant breasts? It seems that established brands like Playtex, Soma, Spanx, and Victoria’s Secret could step up their game here.
While my days of pregnancy are behind me, I empathize with all the expectant mothers out there struggling to find the right fit during a time when comfort is often elusive.
But hang in there! There is a bright future ahead, filled with love and joy that will make all this discomfort worth it. Soon, those maternity bra struggles will be a distant memory—unless you’re nursing. But that’s a whole other saga!
