As the contaminated doses remain quarantined and have not been distributed, the timeline for the promised doses from Baltimore now hangs in the balance. Fortunately, Pfizer is ahead of schedule with its vaccine shipments, and Moderna is seeking approval to increase the number of doses per vial from 10 to 15, which could help maintain supply levels and meet the May 1 target.
President Biden has expressed confidence in the vaccination rollout, stating that a site will be accessible within five miles for 90 percent of Americans by April 19, even before the original May 1 deadline. He emphasized that most adults would be eligible for vaccination earlier than anticipated.
In response to the situation, Johnson & Johnson has committed to enhancing oversight at the Baltimore plant, ensuring its own staff is present to supervise production closely. Before resuming operations, the plant must pass a federal inspection.
