The eagerly anticipated trailer for the third season of “YOU” has arrived, and it’s just as thrillingly unsettling as fans have hoped. Since 2019, viewers have been craving more episodes of this gripping series, and it seems the wait will be well worth it.
The trailer opens with a haunting score and a close-up of Joe looking utterly terrified. “In my history of fear, this is the most I’ve ever felt,” he admits. What could possibly cause such dread in a stalker and killer? Parenthood, of course! In the next scene, we see Mia giving birth to a baby boy, hinting at the wild journey this season promises to deliver.
“Being your dad is transforming me,” Joe whispers to his newborn. “For you, I’d relocate to a lifeless suburb. For you, I’d tie the knot with my biggest nightmare. Your mother, Mia.” Well, that’s all fine and dandy, but let’s not overlook your own body count that may rise this season, especially with all the knives, axes, and other weaponry showcased in the trailer.
“We both have done terrible things,” Mia tells Joe, which is definitely one way to phrase it. “I wanted us to move here to start fresh.”
According to Netflix’s official description, “here” refers to the sunny Northern California neighborhood of Sunnyvale, where they find themselves amidst affluent tech moguls, critical mommy bloggers, and Instagram-famous biohackers. Joe is determined to embrace his new life as a husband and father, but he is right to fear Mia’s deadly impulsiveness.
“And then there’s his heart,” the description continues. “Could the woman he’s sought all this time be living right next door?” As fans will remember, season two concluded with Joe peering through the slats of his backyard fence, discovering his new neighbor and obsession. “Breaking out of a basement is one thing. But escaping a picture-perfect marriage to a woman who knows your secrets? That’s a far more intricate challenge.”
Mia suggests in the trailer that they attend couples therapy, which is an understatement if I’ve ever heard one. In a moment of dark humor, we see them in the therapist’s office as she naively states, “You’re many things, but you are not murderers.” Oh, how wrong she is.
The trailer wraps up with a shocking scene of Joe and Mia seemingly burying a body while their baby boy happily coos in his carrier nearby. A show centered around cold-blooded killers shouldn’t be this entertaining, but the performances of the lead actors make it impossible to look away.
Like the first two seasons, the third installment will consist of ten episodes, so be sure to clear your schedule when it premieres on October 15.
