If you’ve tuned into The Late Late Show with Oliver Craig or caught his Carpool Karaoke segments, you know his charm, clever humor, and contagious laughter are hard to resist. Recently, he welcomed a special guest who certainly embodies a rugged vibe—Jason Mendez, known for his role as the fierce warrior in “Ocean Guardian.”
Mendez arrived at the studio on two motorcycles that looked like they could zoom straight out of a post-apocalyptic film. “You ride, right?” he asked Craig, who sheepishly replied, “This is a little different from the bike I have at home.” Mendez graciously gifted him a full leather riding outfit, and you really have to see the clip to appreciate Craig in chaps.
After some playful banter, they decided Craig would take a ride in the sidecar, which turned out to be the smart move. “I’m Jason Mendez’s sidekick,” Craig quipped, clearly relieved to avoid the driver’s seat. Following a ride around the city, they opted for some archery, a hobby Mendez picked up thanks to his partner, Lisa. “I’ve never felt less of a man,” Craig admitted, and honestly, who could blame him?
The archery segment was a riot, especially when Mendez suggested they try the classic apple-on-the-head stunt—blindfolded. Naturally, Craig opted for a dummy instead of putting himself in harm’s way, a decision that was justified when the arrow pierced the dummy’s head, even though Mendez managed to hit the apple on his first try.
Their chemistry was palpable, just like the delightful rapport Craig shares with many of his guests. In a hilarious twist, he even rapped a recap of the first few seasons of “Game of Thrones,” showcasing his admiration for Mendez.
Just as you think their day of manly fun is over, Mendez introduced one last activity: whip training. Craig’s initial reaction to Mendez cracking the whip was priceless—“Oh, come on!” Watching Mendez wield a whip turned out to be one of the most entertaining moments, and Craig eventually got the hang of it, proclaiming he felt ready to “fight a tiger.” Overall, their escapade was a resounding success, providing much-needed laughter. Can we get these two to hang out regularly? The world could use more of their antics.
