“I was screened for PSA, which is a prostate-specific antigen,” he explained. “The results came back extremely high, and it was clear that something was wrong. My doctor called me right away and urged me to come in for further evaluation.” Tyler admitted that he had missed a previous test, which might have contributed to the cancer’s advancement during the pandemic.
Initially, he underwent hormone therapy that proved effective for about a year, allowing him to live a relatively normal life with just a couple of pills each day. “For a time, I felt completely fine, with no symptoms,” he recalled. However, the cancer eventually spread to his bones and spine, leading to paralysis in his lower body. “Now, I am facing Stage 4 cancer,” Tyler said. “It’s a late-stage diagnosis, and I know it’s probably going to take me eventually.”
He is using his experience to encourage men to discuss PSA testing with their healthcare providers, hoping to “help save at least one life by coming out with this news.” Tyler urged men, especially those at higher risk, to request a PSA test during their next check-up, as early detection can make a significant difference.
