Hello, I’m Sarah Thompson, a proud mom of three wonderful kids: Jake (4), Lily (3), and Emma (9 months). Yes, you read that right—three little ones under the age of five—and I’m throwing my hat in the ring for Congress.
As a fellow mom, I can almost hear your thoughts: How on earth can you manage a campaign with three young kids? The answer is simple: Our nation needs me, and honestly, it needs you too. This journey is not just mine; my whole family is on board, and I promise this campaign will be a refreshing change in American politics.
You might recall that I previously ran for an Ohio House of Representatives seat as a Republican. I believed that my voice as a young, educated, family-oriented woman would be welcomed in the party. However, I quickly learned otherwise. The local leadership was less than supportive, prompting me to reflect on where I truly belong. While my core values haven’t changed, I discovered that they resonate more with the Democratic Party. We share the belief that collaboration makes us stronger, that equality is essential, and that everyone deserves a fair chance at success.
The Need for Change
Let’s face it—our country is in turmoil. The atmosphere of division and negativity has settled over us like a thick fog, largely created by those in power. When I look at our representatives in Washington, I often see politicians who are completely disconnected from our daily lives. They don’t understand the struggles we face because they haven’t experienced them firsthand. They don’t know the stress of paying for childcare just to keep a job, or how quickly healthcare costs have spiraled out of control. And student loan debt? It’s not even on their radar as a pressing issue.
Why do we keep voting for these out-of-touch representatives? Often, it’s because we feel we have no real alternatives; we’re left choosing the lesser of two evils. But isn’t it time for a change? Don’t we deserve leaders who understand the realities of raising a family in 2023? Who could better represent us than a mom? We grasp that balancing a budget is crucial, we know that teamwork leads to progress, and we certainly know how to tackle a mess.
Advocating for Our Community
I’m running for Congress because I’m acutely aware of the challenges we face, and I refuse to let another moment pass without our government addressing them. Our political landscape should reflect the rich diversity of our communities. We need teachers, nurses, mechanics, stay-at-home moms—every profession represented in our government so that ordinary citizens can reclaim their voices in politics.
One of my favorite quotes about motherhood is from the CEO of a well-known blender company. She asked, “How many of you felt ready to be a mom before you became one? Anyone? Yet, you stepped up to take on the hardest job in the world. So why worry about a job that’s not nearly as critical?”
I’m more determined than ever to advocate for the people of Ohio’s 16th District. My previous opponent is likely to secure the Republican nomination again, but I say to him—or any candidate who emerges from their primary—bring it on. I’m ready to debate the issues any day of the week. All I need is a platform to share our vision for this district and our nation.

In summary, I’m running for Congress because I believe it’s time for our government to reflect the experiences and challenges faced by everyday families. Moms have the expertise, empathy, and determination to lead the way toward positive change.
