“It’s an honor to make a little history,” said actor Jonathan Bennett.

If you’re still recovering from the emotional rollercoaster of the trailer for the upcoming queer holiday film starring Kristen Stewart and Dan Levy, you’re in for more good news. Hallmark has released a teaser for its inaugural Christmas movie featuring a gay couple in the lead roles. The film not only looks like a festive must-see, but it also stars a familiar face from the early 2000s.

Hallmark joins other networks like Hulu, where Stewart’s Happiest Season will premiere, and Lifetime, which recently announced its first LGBTQ-inclusive holiday film, The Christmas Setup, showcasing a romantic storyline between two men. Hallmark’s film, titled The Christmas House, is set to premiere on November 22 and features Jonathan Bennett from Mean Girls alongside Brad Harder. This release comes after a disappointing year for Hallmark in 2019, where none of their holiday films featured same-sex couples.

“Representation is so important, and to depict this storyline on Hallmark Channel is truly a privilege,” Bennett shared with Entertainment Tonight.

The Christmas House follows the story of brothers Mike Mitchell, portrayed by Robert Buckley, and Brandon, played by Bennett, as they return home for the holidays. The film will showcase Brandon and his husband, Jake, as they await news about the adoption of their first child, according to the Hallmark Channel’s website.

Bennett expressed that he wishes he had a film like The Christmas House to watch when he was younger. “I can only imagine how excited I would have been to see a Christmas movie with a storyline like this; two men in love, preparing to have a baby together. I’m truly excited,” he stated.

Adoption has been a topic of discussion for Bennett and his partner, Jaymes Vaughan. “We’re definitely considering it, especially after filming this movie, which resonated with me on a personal level,” he said.

“I’m incredibly proud of Hallmark for expanding the holiday narrative and making it more inclusive,” Bennett added. “So many viewers will feel acknowledged and embraced by the Hallmark family — and they should. This holiday season is going to be special for many.”

In another promotional clip, Bennett shared that his greatest joy this Christmas is spending time with family. “Family means everything to me,” he remarked, noting that some scenes from the movie even prompted him to reach out to his loved ones. “I hope this film encourages people to reconnect with their families and share unconditional love,” he concluded.

The Christmas House is set to premiere on November 22 at 8/7c on Hallmark.
