In a recent edition of Glamour, comedian Amy Schumer found herself included in a list of “inspiring” plus-size women, despite being a size 6-8. This inclusion in their Special Edition: Chic At Any Size didn’t sit well with her. Schumer expressed her discontent, highlighting the societal stigma attached to being labeled as “fat.” While she didn’t explicitly state this, her sentiments were clear enough.
To clarify, a size eight is not considered plus-size by any standard. The fashion industry’s attempt to create an “inclusive” category feels counterproductive, as it seems to separate women into “others.” If the fashion world genuinely aims to be revolutionary, it should embrace women of all sizes without needing a special label. Such designations often imply that these women are marginalized within the fashion spectrum.
Schumer took to her Instagram account to voice her concerns, stating, “There’s nothing wrong with being plus size. Beautiful healthy women. Plus size is considered size 16 in America. I go between a size 6 and an 8. @glamourmag put me in their plus size issue without my consent.”
