Haunted mansions might seem thrilling at 15, especially when you’re with friends trying to prove your courage. After all, you know it’s all staged — the “spirits” are actors, and once you exit, you’re back in the normal world. But what happens when you suspect your own home might be genuinely haunted? When you notice strange sights, sounds, or sensations that don’t have an explanation? Is it just a side effect of watching too many horror films? Or maybe it’s just your imagination acting up? Or could it be your great-aunt Martha returning to critique your Thanksgiving baking?

In my case, my partner and I were certain our old house was haunted. We both experienced apparitions and heard footsteps during those quiet hours when the kids were asleep. Even visitors remarked on seeing odd things. Yet, it never felt like a malicious spirit; we often mused it could be my grandma checking in on us, which made the experience feel oddly comforting.

Whether you believe it’s your late relatives or a ghostly soldier from a bygone era, the idea of ghosts can be pretty creepy. If you’re into that kind of spooky thrill, I can let my sweet grandma know (if she visits again) to swing by your place. But if you’re not a fan, I hope you remain ghost-free, and that your kitchen doors don’t start closing on their own!

I view myself as a rational individual. I won’t claim my home is haunted, but there’s definitely something off about this place.

Once, my sister and I spent the night at a “haunted” plantation house. Lying awake, I felt a jolt of electric energy coursing through me. It was entirely real, and I was wide awake. Still unsure what to make of it.

I’m starting to think my house might be haunted. I keep catching strange smells and came out of the bathroom to find the basement door wide open, even though it was closed just five minutes earlier.

I’ve lived in multiple haunted houses. I perceive things, see and hear unexplainable events, and it’s genuinely unsettling.

Once you encounter it, you can’t just forget it; the feeling lingers with you, and you become haunted by the experience, which I guess is the whole idea.

Confessional #25410899

Growing up in a 160-year-old haunted house, I often saw spirits that didn’t disturb anyone. I usually doubt everything, but when I say I believe in ghosts, people think I’m out of my mind.

Confessional #25807373

I’m frustrated that no one believes me when I insist our house is haunted.

Confessional #19495029

I was relieved when my brother-in-law mentioned to my husband that he thinks our house is haunted. It gave me a bit of credibility, and maybe my husband will take me seriously now when I share my experiences, especially since they never happen when he’s around.

Confessional #18568812

It’s disheartening when others don’t experience the hauntings, making them dismiss your feelings or think you’re losing it. I mean, come on, Carl, I just saw a little ghost girl ride her tricycle through my living room!

Confessional #25809079

My in-laws are convinced the old (over 100 years) house we moved into is haunted. My mother-in-law refuses to step foot inside. I might just stay here forever…

Confessional #25809079

I don’t care if I never travel internationally; I just want to explore ghost towns and visit haunted sites across the U.S.

Not everyone shies away from the idea, though. There are ghost-hunters who thrive on that spine-tingling sensation of a presence from beyond. Plus, it’s a great excuse to avoid your mother-in-law!

I was writing a different confession when an ad interrupted me. Just to be clear, I absolutely despise scary movies. I can’t even handle “haunted” houses because I end up hitting the actors.

Confessional #1710591

I’m an intelligent, capable 32-year-old spouse and mother, yet I still freeze in fear at the thought of ghosts. I leave all the lights on when my husband is away. I genuinely believe my house is haunted. I thought this would have faded by now.

Confessional #24779421

Either there’s a ghost in my attic, or someone is living up there. The thought of someone being up there terrifies me way more than the idea of spirits.

Confessional #1703305

I keep seeing movement out of the corner of my eye, which is freaking me out. Not sure if my house is haunted, if I need to relax, or maybe both.

Sometimes it’s hard to tell if our fears are just playing tricks on us or if we genuinely saw something shift. Regardless, when our kids’ toys start playing music at 1 A.M., that’s definitely unsettling, and we won’t sleep for days.

Confessional #3074498

I was convinced our house was haunted growing up, only to discover a girl had died in my bedroom.

Confessional #13600900

My mom’s basement has been haunted for about 15 years. Recently, my brother cleaned up the gravestone of our long-deceased infant brother, which had been completely covered over. Hopefully, that brings some peace.

Confessional #1727471

I’m starting to feel irrationally anxious that our home is haunted. My daughter keeps waving and pointing at her closet. I really watch too many horror movies.

So yeah, suspecting your house may be haunted can be… well, unnerving, especially when your child says something spine-chilling like “Mommy, I just spoke to the man in the closet,” leading you to think, “Alright, we’re moving!”

If you’re into ghost-hunting, feel free to take all the spirits with you, but leave my grandma here. She can stay, especially if she compliments my apple pie.
