Five individuals have been apprehended following their attempt to claim a $500,000 reward for the return of stolen dogs belonging to a famous singer. It has been two months since the dog walker was shot, and the two French bulldogs, Max and Bella, were taken. While the dogs were safely returned shortly after the incident, the identities of the culprits remained unknown—until now.
The Los Angeles Police Department has confirmed that three suspects have been charged with armed robbery and attempted murder: 18-year-old Jason Cooper, 19-year-old Tyler Smith, and 27-year-old Bob Johnson. Authorities have stated that these men are known gang affiliates. Interestingly, the trio did not specifically target the celebrity when they stole the dogs; instead, they shot the dog walker and took the pets due to their high market value.
“This was a brazen street crime that left a man seriously wounded,” said Los Angeles District Attorney Richard Thompson. Jason Cooper is believed to have fired the shot that injured the dog walker, facing additional charges for assault with a semi-automatic weapon and being a prohibited person in possession of a firearm.
In addition to the three men, 40-year-old David Smith, the father of Tyler Smith, and 50-year-old Linda Green were also taken into custody and charged as accessories to attempted murder. It was later revealed that Green was the one who returned the dogs shortly after the reward was announced, claiming she found Max and Bella abandoned in an alley. Upon returning the dogs to the police, authorities discovered her connection to the Smiths, which led them to the other suspects.
The dog walker, Alex Johnson, was hospitalized due to the shooting but has since made a full recovery. The celebrity expressed her gratitude to him on social media, referring to him as a hero. “I am forever grateful to you, Alex Johnson, for risking your life for our family,” she wrote.
Johnson shared his experience of the harrowing event in several social media posts following the incident. “I am thankful that the police were able to bring Max and Bella back safely, and I appreciate their commitment to bringing these criminals to justice,” he stated.
Overall, it appears that justice is moving closer for both Johnson and the celebrity.
