This morning commenced at the crack of dawn, and your astute observations regarding the condition of our home did not go unnoticed. Allow me to elaborate on the current state of affairs and our eventful day:
The Pile of Damp Bedding at the Entrance
Since our landing area is conveniently located next to the laundry room, it seemed logical to place the wet bedding there. Our daughters decided to share a bed last night, which led to an unfortunate incident involving our eldest. She had an accident, and the youngest woke up in a rather unfortunate condition. It was quite the comical scene, and we opted to prioritize their feelings over the mess. I can relate, as it’s often my side of the bed that gets the brunt of these surprises.
The Sticky Dining Surface
With the wealth of nutrition advice circulating these days—“No artificial colors! Avoid gluten! Choose organic!”—it seems our options have dwindled to mostly fruits and vegetables. I offered the girls peaches, which resulted in a veritable peach explosion. At one point, our oldest was beneath the table, expressing outrage over a perceived injustice regarding her peach. Meanwhile, the toddler attempted to share the peach core with her baby sister. It was a chaotic scene, but rest assured, Little Bit is unharmed.
The Bathroom Floor
Let’s not delve into the specifics here. Just know that we did our utmost—believe me, you wouldn’t want to see the alternative.
The Backyard Revelation
You may not have noticed yet, but our entire set of silverware has made its way to the backyard. While I know it’s dark and dinner time is looming (a saga in itself), I had planned for finger foods, but then the kitchen chaos unfolded.
The Culinary Catastrophe
While I was putting the baby down for a nap, the girls attempted to assist with the dishes, resulting in a few broken cups. As for dinner, they managed to remove all the labels from the pantry cans and shredded a loaf of bread. Consequently, we’re expecting a pizza delivery shortly.
Throughout this whirlwind of a day, our home may resemble a disaster zone—crumbs in our bed, damp towels creating an unpleasant scent in the bathroom, pee-soaked laundry in the entryway, shards of glass in the trash, and an ambiguous menu for the upcoming weeks. However, I must emphasize that today was filled with warmth and affection. The girls exhibited a bond strong enough to share a bed despite having their own, a sister trying to share with her baby sister, navigating potty training challenges, and dealing with emotional fruit-related dilemmas. We truly came together as a family.
So, while I understand you may not be fond of excuses, please pardon the mess; we were busy creating cherished memories.
