Once upon a time, I was part of your carefree world, able to indulge in spontaneity and freedom. Sometimes, I find myself longing for those days, and I admit I feel a hint of envy for your unhurried lifestyle. Since becoming a mom, our dynamic has shifted, and there are a few things I’d like to share:
Temporary Busyness
First, I assure you that my current busyness is only temporary. One day, my little one will grow up, and I will regain the ability to socialize more frequently. While I may not return to my previous social calendar, I will make every effort to connect with you as often as possible.
Exhaustion and Forgetfulness
Second, I won’t always feel this exhausted. I often forget important details, and I truly feel embarrassed about it. You matter to me, and so do the conversations we share. My sleep has been so scarce that I jokingly referred to my eyelids as “eye covers.” I haven’t enjoyed more than three hours of uninterrupted rest in months! I promise that in time, when my energy returns, I will remember our chats and offer insightful advice once more.
Missing Out
I genuinely want to spend time with you all. I apologize for missing out on wing night every Thursday and for saying no more often than I’d like. I cherish our outings, whether it’s a trip to the movies or a shopping spree, but as a single mom, I often feel guilty leaving my baby with my parents. However, please keep inviting me. It reminds me that I’m still valued and loved, even if my responses are infrequent. Occasionally, I may surprise us both and say yes, allowing us to share laughter and catch up.
Longing for Connection
I miss you dearly. I long for our adventures—those spontaneous drives, gym sessions, late-night wine tastings, and baking marathons. Your presence brightened my days, and I miss that connection.
Support During Pregnancy
You supported me throughout my pregnancy, tolerating my mood swings and joining me for ice cream runs and baby shopping. You reassured me during my insecurities about weight gain and always made me feel beautiful, even on the hottest days. Thank you for that; I hold a deep love for you all.
Comfort in Difficult Times
On those challenging days when I felt overwhelmed, you were there to listen, providing comfort without judgment. You might not have had solutions, but your open hearts and willingness to stand by me were invaluable.
Gratitude for My Friends
So, my wonderful friends, know that I cherish you and hold you in high regard. Life has changed, and my world is more complex now, but I think of you often and consider you my closest friends. To my friends who became moms before me, I owe you endless gratitude for helping prepare me for this incredible journey. I couldn’t have done it without your support.
I love you all and miss you more than words can convey. One day, when I’m not covered in spit-up, running on minimal sleep, or managing a teething baby, I promise to treat you all to rounds of wine!
Xoxo,
Lila
