I hope this message finds you well. I’m writing to formally announce my resignation from my role as the chief food coordinator, effective immediately. It has been an incredible journey over the past fifteen years, filled with invaluable experiences and lessons. I’ve mastered the art of preparing multiple dinners each night to cater to various dietary preferences (or pickiness), managing an online grocery list, and navigating the grocery aisles solo most of the time. I’ve also perfected the routine of unloading groceries, crafting menus that satisfy everyone, and enjoying lukewarm meals while loading and unloading the dishwasher daily.
While I embraced this role when I first took it on, I’ve come to realize that my responsibilities have significantly increased without a corresponding rise in appreciation or support. In fact, I’ve often encountered complaints and a noticeable lack of involvement from the rest of the household.
Thus, it is time for us to part ways.
I want to clarify that I’m still committed to contributing to our food needs. Although I will no longer be the person managing all things culinary, I will continue to financially support our grocery shopping and food preparation.
I am also willing to assist in training a successor to ensure a smooth transition. Below are key tasks I expect to be addressed before my departure, although I will do my best to finish as much as I can:
- Create the weekly grocery list
- Order the list online with input from the family to avoid frustration
- Pick up groceries from the store
- Make a trip to the other store for anything forgotten
- Unpack and organize the groceries
- Prepare hot meals for everyone, including two dinners daily
- Clean up post-meal, including washing dishes and running the dishwasher
- Repeat the entire process
Upon reflection, you may recognize that this role is far too vast for one person to handle effectively unless it is their sole occupation. Should you choose to restructure this position, I would be open to considering a part-time role alongside a supportive team.
Thank you for the experiences and opportunities throughout the years. I’m looking forward to seeing you around the house as I continue with my other responsibilities, including overseeing laundry, family logistics like doctor appointments and recreational activities, and managing schoolwork and social events.
Wishing you all the best.
Warm regards,
Mom
