Four-year-old Emily adored Curious George. She was enchanted by his adventures, his television shows, and her cherished stuffed animal version of the little monkey. So, when her mother and grandmother excitedly announced a trip to New York City, Emily was certain they would meet him there—after all, he lived in the big city, right? Concerned about her potential disappointment, her family pondered how to address the situation. After much deliberation, they suggested that they write a letter to George: “I’m going to be in your city. Can I see you?” They helped Emily address the envelope: Curious George, in care of The Man in the Yellow Hat, Central Park West, NY, New York. Emily thought it was a brilliant idea.
Upon arriving at their hotel in New York, Emily eagerly awaited by the window. The next morning, a small gift bag appeared at their door, addressed to her. Attached was a card from George, who was indeed away on vacation but had left her some gifts to enjoy during her trip. “George is really nice!” she exclaimed, bringing the bag back inside. Her mom and grandma sighed in relief.
With everyone feeling content, they set out to explore the city. They took a delightful carriage ride through Central Park and later boarded a sightseeing bus to tour Manhattan. Emily was thrilled, remembering that George had once been on a tour bus too. As they settled in, she sat right next to the driver, keeping an eager lookout. Suddenly, without warning, she leaned toward the driver and asked, “Do you know Curious George?”
