A new docuseries titled LuLaRich is set to premiere on Amazon Prime next month, delving into the experiences of consultants who feel they were misled by the MLM company LuLaRoe. The recently released trailer has generated quite a buzz, showcasing what appears to be a compelling narrative about the controversial pyramid scheme that duped countless women into selling leggings that often fell apart after one wash.

The trailer features a series of eye-opening testimonials from former LuLaRoe sales representatives. One consultant recounts receiving leggings that humorously resembled a crude design, while another shares, “The entire house smelled like dead fart leggings.” Other quotes include stark admissions like, “It’s the definition of a pyramid scheme,” and “Oh my god, I’m in a cult.”

The docuseries highlights the numerous lawsuits that have been filed against LuLaRoe, whose founders, DeAnne and Mark Stidham, claim they only wish to empower women to be their own bosses. This assertion is starkly contrasted by a consultant’s statement, “I’m going to lose my house,” emphasizing the financial struggles many faced in the wake of this venture.

What Does Becoming a LuLaRoe Consultant Entail?

In short, it requires an initial investment and ongoing purchases to keep inventory updated. This cycle can lead many to financial distress, as evidenced by personal accounts from women who have experienced it firsthand.

Created by Jenner Furst and Julia Willoughby Nason, the team behind the Fyre Fraud documentary, LuLaRich will consist of four parts featuring former consultants and staff discussing their lives post-LuLaRoe. The creators describe the series as a “modern comedy of errors” that also provides important social commentary on MLMs.

I recall being drawn into the LuLaRoe craze back in 2016, purchasing multiple pairs of leggings. Thankfully, I never ventured into becoming a consultant myself, but I observed several friends who did. Over time, many of them had to offload their inventory, often at a loss, as they realized the financial burden was too much to bear.

If this docuseries can shed light on these experiences and prevent other women from suffering similar financial woes, it will be invaluable. LuLaRich debuts on Amazon on September 10.
