Her hilarious video is taking the internet by storm.

As the saying goes, beauty often comes at a price. But let’s be honest—that’s nonsense; improving your appearance shouldn’t involve pain. Still, when it does, it’s best to find humor in the situation, much like the woman who nearly lost her skin while trying to remove a “black” mask from her face.

Facial masks designed to eliminate blackheads, often referred to as “black masks,” are far from the soothing spa experience one might hope for. They work by yanking out impurities from your pores—and, unfortunately, many of the fine hairs on your face as well. In short, they can be excruciating.

Enter singer and comedian, Mia Thompson, who decided to share her painful experience of peeling off one of these notorious masks in a video on Facebook. It’s clear she didn’t intend to create such an entertaining spectacle, which is just our luck.

If you’ve ever watched beauty tutorials on YouTube, you can relate to Mia’s frustration as she notes how effortlessly perfect the women look while removing what essentially resembles dried tar from their faces. She pulls at the mask, exclaiming, “You’re supposed to exfoliate first, apply this, then wait 30 minutes and just peel it off! All these videos show women doing it effortlessly, and it’s total nonsense!”

As she continues, “This is no joke; it hurts! It’s literally tearing out every tiny hair on my face!” Although we feel bad for laughing, Mia somehow turns this painful ordeal into pure entertainment. She persists in her struggle, declaring, “If I don’t look fabulous after this, I’m going to be really angry!” And honestly, we can’t blame her—losing a layer of skin should come with some rewards.

The next few minutes showcase Mia’s valiant efforts to free herself from this torturous mask, as she exclaims phrases like, “How do these women manage to look good doing this?” and “I feel like a dinosaur!” Eventually, after what feels like an eternity, she finally removes the mask, only to discover, “Now, let’s inspect—oh great, all I see are the roots of my tiny face hairs!”

Mia expresses her disappointment, saying, “I feel betrayed by my fellow women. Why didn’t anyone warn me?” I can totally relate—I recently jumped on the “charcoal” beauty trend and tried a pore strip. Even though it was just for my nose, the removal process was a journey of pain, leaving me sore for hours. Yet, I still marveled at the gross results.

As Mia reminds us, “People need to know what they’re getting into! It’s like a full facial wax!” Ladies, take note! Beware of those intimidating black masks if you’re fond of your skin.
