Earlier this week, Emma Raines unveiled the trailer for her eagerly awaited 1950s thriller, Don’t Worry Darling, at CinemaCon in Las Vegas. Attendees were treated to an exclusive first look at the tantalizing trailer featuring co-stars Florence Pugh and Emma’s partner, Harry Styles. However, instead of enjoying the spotlight, the director experienced an unexpected interruption when a man stepped onto the stage, presenting a manila envelope marked “Personal and Confidential.”
Unfazed, Emma, known for her composure, picked up the envelope, glanced inside, sealed it again, and continued her presentation, describing Don’t Worry Darling as “a love letter to films that stretch the limits of our imagination.”
Unfortunately, the envelope contained not a script but child custody documents from her former partner, actor Leo Graham. Emma and Leo began dating in 2011 and got engaged two years later, but they separated in November 2020. They share two children, Otis, 8, and Daisy Josephine, 5.
While representatives for Emma and Leo have yet to comment on the poorly timed delivery, a source indicated that Leo “had no prior knowledge” of when or where the papers would be served, attributing the delivery to the processing service. “Papers were drawn up to establish jurisdiction regarding the children of Ms. Raines and Mr. Graham,” the source stated, clarifying that Leo would never approve such an inappropriate serving method.
This assertion conflicts with insights from family law attorney David Fox, who explained that process servers typically follow instructions from their clients’ attorneys. He noted that it’s common practice to first attempt service through email before resorting to public delivery. “We try to serve at a time when the kids aren’t around,” Fox said.
The situation raises questions about the nature of their co-parenting arrangement, as they have reportedly been amicable despite some rough patches post-separation. Emma’s new relationship with Harry Styles began soon after the split, which left Leo feeling “absolutely heartbroken.” Here’s hoping that both can reach a cooperative child custody arrangement for the sake of their family.
