It’s time for some accountability, America. We must confront the reality we’ve created together.
Donald Trump is no longer the focal point of our issues. We can no longer place the blame solely on him; this transcends his persona. The unfortunate reality is that his behavior, marked by a series of verbal mishaps, inflammatory remarks, and immature outbursts, has been consistent throughout his career, and history bears witness to this.
His business dealings, numerous bankruptcies, the decline of Atlantic City, his personal life, and his time on reality television contribute to a troubling legacy. Trump has never been a beacon of virtue.
What’s alarming is that a significant portion of our country—38%—is currently endorsing and excusing this behavior. We are supporting and funding a narrative that embraces negativity, asking someone with such a track record to lead us and represent our nation on the global stage, to safeguard our children’s futures.
This 38% is willing to overlook bigotry, rationalize reckless behavior, and dismiss threats of violence. They have chosen to ignore the chaos that surrounds us because they’ve decided to accept the mess, no matter how unpleasant it may be. A third of our population seems to shrug off egregious conduct, claiming it as a necessary step toward greatness.
This election cycle is serving as an X-ray of our collective conscience, revealing deep-rooted issues within our society. It highlights the anger, racism, and fear that permeate our national spirit. Shockingly, a significant portion of our populace seems content with this reality—complicit in its growth.
It matters little to this group how uninformed Trump may be, how frequently he lies, or how low he sinks; such considerations are brushed aside. It’s astonishing that we’ve normalized behaviors like mocking individuals with disabilities, inciting violence against protesters, and making derogatory remarks about women. These have become the new standards for leadership.
We’ve hit a troubling milestone. This is a moment where a third of us refuse to let facts or logic disrupt our emotional responses and our desire for change. We are careening down a path that leads to disaster, unwilling to admit our missteps and alter course.
This isn’t solely the fault of one individual or the supporters who rally behind him. The reality is that all of us share responsibility for the current state of affairs. We have allowed fear, anger, and division to fester as a collective.
From churches to corporations, from politicians to everyday citizens, we have all contributed to this situation. This is the reality we have constructed together, and it’s a situation we must confront together.
Regardless of what transpires in the upcoming months, we must recognize where we currently stand. This is the America we’ve shaped, and it’s a truth we can no longer evade. We ought to feel a sense of fear, embarrassment, and disgust at this juncture.
Instead of pointing fingers at Donald Trump, we must turn inward and examine the reflection in the mirror. This is our collective challenge.
