American Girl Launches Family-Friendly Podcast Network

As a lifelong fan, I couldn’t be more thrilled! American Girl has introduced a fantastic new way to engage with their beloved stories through a brand new podcast network. This collaboration between the children’s publisher and Mattel has birthed the American Girl Podcast Network, designed to entertain and connect girls, their families, and the entire fanbase through their shared passion for all things American Girl, according to an official announcement.
The podcast promises an ad-free experience and will explore various formats and themes, all aimed at inspiring creativity and a love for reading. The network launches with three original shows: American Girl 10-Minute Mysteries, American Girl Fanclub, and The Smart Girls Podcast.
In an interview, Maxine Johnson, the General Manager for American Girl, shared the inspiration behind this initiative: “Many of our fans have grown into young adults or even parents, and there’s been a notable resurgence of nostalgia for everything AG. The American Girl Podcast Network offers a fresh avenue for us to entertain and engage with our diverse fanbase, no matter where they are.”
Johnson also mentioned plans to expand the network, aiming to cultivate a growing array of shows that breathe life into the brand’s rich content, history, and community.
While American Girl aims their content at all age groups, Johnson emphasized that the podcast is especially suited for “young listeners and their parents to enjoy during bedtime or car rides,” as well as providing “tween and teen-centric content that helps them learn about themselves, their bodies, and emotions in an inclusive way.”
When discussing the significance of their stories compared to the dolls, Johnson affirmatively stated, “Absolutely.” She elaborated, “The narratives have always been central to our mission and are what sets us apart in the market for over three decades. These stories have enabled us to branch out into various new mediums, including live theater, movies, and now our very own podcast network.”
In describing the creative process, Johnson said, “As we craft stories today, we recognize that traditional print remains crucial to learning. At the same time, we can transition our popular series onto new digital platforms, like our thriving YouTube channel with nearly 700K subscribers, and social media, where we can animate our characters through music videos and more.” “We’ve also just announced two new live-action projects with HBO Max and Cartoon Network, bringing our characters to life on the screen, with the first being our 2022 Girl of the Year debuting this December,” she added.
