Alicia Silverstone’s son, Leo, has opted for a haircut just two months after she disclosed that he faced bullying due to his long hair. For some time now, Silverstone has been subject to criticism from so-called parenting experts for letting her son, now 9, keep his lengthy locks. Recently, she faced heightened scrutiny when she mentioned that Leo was bullied for his hairstyle but insisted on allowing him to choose for himself. Now, the star of Clueless has proudly shared that Leo decided to cut his hair, and she fully supports his choice as it was his decision to make.

“Yes, it’s true! Leo cut his hair!! My little one is growing up,” the 44-year-old actress shared in a video showcasing Leo’s haircut. “I miss his long hair! Did I shed a tear watching it get cut? Perhaps… but I didn’t try to stop him for even a second. He kept it long because he loved it! He just wanted to try a new look. I have a hunch he may want his long hair back in the future. Regardless, I will always support my sweet, kind, and wonderful boy in every choice he makes.”

In the video, she asks Leo, “What are we doing right now?” He responds, “Cutting my hair.” When she asks why, he simply smiles and says he doesn’t know. “Are you nervous about this at all?” she inquires. “Yes, very,” he admits, but adds that he’s also “so excited.” After the haircut, Leo checks out his new look in the mirror, clearly pleased with the results.

Back in September, Silverstone opened up about Leo’s experiences with bullying, recalling a moment when he was teased by peers during a bus ride to surf camp. She thought he might want to cut his hair following the incident, but when they went to an appointment, he chose to keep it long, saying, “Please give me a trim so I can grow it to my waist.” She praised him for knowing who he is and loving his hair, sharing photos of both Leo’s beautiful hair and celebrity men like Harry Styles and Jason Momoa who have also sported long hairstyles. “Neither Mama nor Papa will stop him from being himself. He’s beautiful, and we love his hair! We’ll never impose societal views on how boys’ or girls’ hair should look. Embracing our children and their choices without judgement is essential!”
