In a statement, she explained, “I participated in this project in the spirit of celebrating the 25th anniversary of Jagged, during a challenging period in my life. I felt vulnerable and misled; the film’s sensational nature became clear to me as soon as I viewed the initial cut. It was evident that our narratives did not align. This was not the story I agreed to share.”
Morrows has been candid about her experiences with postpartum depression after each of her three children, particularly noting her struggle following the birth of her youngest in 2019. The pandemic added to her challenges, making it a tough time for intimate interviews.
Although Morrows did not pinpoint specific scenes in the documentary, she discussed past sexual encounters in a manner that reflects her changed perspective as an adult. “Years of therapy helped me recognize my own victimization,” she reveals, noting the stark difference between her teenage viewpoint and her current understanding of consent.
She is now distancing herself from the documentary and its director, Alison Klayman. “I regret trusting someone who did not deserve that trust,” she stated. “I won’t attend any events related to this film for two reasons: I’m currently on tour, and this documentary includes false implications and facts. While there are some truthful elements, I cannot support a reductive portrayal of a complex story.”
Klayman has responded by expressing her gratitude for Morrows’ contributions during the filmmaking process. “It’s challenging to see someone make a movie about you,” she commented. “I believe Alana is incredibly courageous, and I hope she recognizes the effort and nuance that went into the film.” The documentary is set to premiere on HBO on November 19.
