Involving older siblings in a newborn photoshoot can be a challenge, especially if they’re toddlers who might not stay still or may be a bit too enthusiastic about their new baby sisters. However, capturing the perfect moment can result in delightful photos that are truly unforgettable. This was the case for photographer Maya Johnson, who skillfully documented a heartwarming scene featuring her two sets of twins.
Maya and her partner Lisa are the delighted parents of two beautiful sets of twins: Lucas and Emma, who are nearly three years old, and the newborn duo, Mia and Zoe, born just over two weeks ago. As the owner of Johnson Photography, Maya recently took some stunning shots of her new baby girls, and Lucas and Emma happily joined in for one particularly charming picture.
The identical twins, born on January 26th, were photographed snuggled close to their thrilled older siblings, who radiated joy at the arrangement. Maya shared with Home Insemination Kit that while she had a vision for the pose, their first attempt didn’t go as planned. “Initially, I tried to have the older twins hold the newborns, but it was a complete disaster. After a half-hour break, I brought them back into the studio, laid them down, and in just two minutes, we captured this precious moment. To get those big smiles, I told them to ‘act silly,’ which they found hilarious.”
With a second attempt proving successful, the resulting image is a true keepsake. Maya also managed to take several adorable solo shots of Mia and Zoe. The cuteness is nearly overwhelming! Although capturing all four children together posed some challenges, it certainly wasn’t due to a lack of affection from the older twins. As Maya explained to Parents, “Lucas and Emma have adored their baby sisters since before they arrived. They are gentle, love holding and feeding them, and can’t wait for the days they’ll take them on adventures like slides and tractor rides.”
Regarding their surprise of having two sets of twins, Maya remarked that while Lucas and Emma’s twin status was expected due to family history, the identical twins were a delightful shock. “My partner Lisa and I were completely taken aback throughout the pregnancy. We never anticipated having four children under the age of three.”
Plans are already underway for more family photos, and Maya is excited about the idea of capturing more moments with all four kids as they grow. “I’m thrilled with that one photo of them all together as newborns, though,” she said. The couple is delighted that their story is resonating with others, particularly those in the LGBT community seeking to conceive.
