A Non-Tech Toy That Might Let You Enjoy Your Coffee While It’s Hot

Lately, kitchen and household-themed toys have taken over my home. While my kids aren’t exactly eager to tackle real chores, they happily engage in pretend play, sweeping and washing imaginary dishes until the make-believe mess is all gone—leaving us with plenty of actual dirt to deal with.

One particular coffee play set has been a massive hit since we unboxed it. I don’t drink coffee myself (trust me, I wish I did), and my kids have never set foot in a coffee shop aside from passing by the Starbucks at our local Target. They don’t even realize that coffee is brewed there; the cake pops are what catch their eye.

However, once they started playing with this toy, they instinctively understood its purpose. They often set up a “coffee shop,” with my son anxiously searching for a mocha pod that rolled under the couch, all while trying to whip up a large iced mocha for his dad before he gets home from work.

This adorable set includes tiny coffee pods compatible with a Keurig-style machine, along with ice cubes, cream, and sugar. It even comes with a stirring spoon and a sturdy card displaying the menu options, creating a delightful little barista experience. What I love most is that all the pieces are crafted from solid wood, making them durable enough that I don’t flinch when my daughter flings a sugar packet across the room.

Is this play set potentially introducing my children to caffeine culture? Perhaps. Yet, I’m confident that the actual flavor of coffee, which makes me want to dump my taste buds in the trash, will be a sufficient deterrent should they ever attempt to sip a real cup.

This charming addition would make a perfect gift for the child of any sleep-deprived mom friend (and let’s be honest, there are plenty of those) on their next birthday. It’s a cute nod to their daily struggles. While their little ones pretend to brew coffee, maybe she’ll finally get to sip her own cup while it’s still warm.
