Recently, a friend of mine posted a surprising image on social media: a public “feeding station” at Target. Just when you thought your love for Target couldn’t grow any stronger!
This innovative station includes two cozy chairs, a small table, and a basket filled with complimentary breast pads for mothers. It also features a Boppy pillow and a breastfeeding cover for added comfort. Best of all, it’s positioned in an open area, not tucked away in a private room.
“Wow, how progressive! The Target in Oakwood has a dedicated feeding station for mothers, complete with a basket of free breast pads,” she wrote alongside the photo.
The Facebook community Breastfeeding Mama Talk shared a similar image last week from the same store, prompting women to share their own experiences with local Targets offering similar amenities. One user from Santa Clara, California, mentioned, “My Target has one of those! The last time I used it, a Target employee even brought me some snacks and a water bottle.” Snacks and a water bottle? Who knew they had such thoughtful staff!
Another commenter highlighted the wording of the sign: “Notice it says ‘feeding station,’ not ‘nursing station.’ Kudos to Target!”
Navigating outings with an infant can be overwhelming. Knowing there’s a welcoming space to pause and address your baby’s needs is a huge relief, especially for new moms who might still be adjusting to feeding in public. This initiative is a fantastic way for Target to support its customers.
We reached out to Target for more information. A representative shared that while there are no immediate plans to expand this initiative nationwide, they are piloting nursing rooms in select locations to gather customer feedback. “In late 2016, we began testing designated nursing rooms at two stores in Minnesota. We will continue to assess guest feedback on this test to consider broader implementation in other stores,” explained Sarah Thompson, a Target representative. “We want to ensure our guests feel comfortable breastfeeding in public spaces, and leaders at individual stores have the discretion to meet the needs of their customers, as seen in Oakwood.”
So, let your local store leaders know how much these public spaces matter to you!

In summary, Target’s initiative to provide baby feeding stations is a commendable move towards creating a family-friendly shopping environment. This thoughtful addition not only supports new mothers but also fosters a sense of community.
