Dear Beloved Belly,
We’ve had our moments of turmoil lately, haven’t we? I’ve ignored you, pressed you down, and let’s be honest—I’ve often tried to suck you in. It’s been a struggle between us, and I realize now that I’ve been unkind.
It’s a bit ironic, considering how I once wrapped you in restrictive Spanx, causing you great discomfort. But if you look closely, you’ll see I’ve become a bit more relaxed about that lately. I know you might think this is part of some devious plan, a bait-and-switch before I drag you back into another torturous Pilates session led by an overly enthusiastic instructor in a questionable outfit. But trust me, dear belly, it’s not a game.
This is about embracing who we are. You and I, we are inherently soft. Can we embrace that softness together?
I acknowledge that things were much firmer before I became a parent. Kids really do change everything. They came between us and stole our time. Remember those long hours we spent at the gym, joyfully crunching and planking like it was second nature? Those were good times, and I miss them too.
Back in the day, it felt effortless. We were satisfied with just a modest six-pack—or even sharing one! We didn’t care about chasing the elusive designer abs. Somewhere along the line, we lost our direction, didn’t we? That’s why I’m reaching out to you now. It’s time for a reality check. If things have gone downhill, I’ll take full responsibility for that. I’ve let myself get too comfortable. But let’s not set unrealistic expectations for each other. Longing for that one midriff-baring outfit in my closet isn’t doing us any favors. And let’s not even talk about my obsession with those Rag & Bone jeans that only seem to tighten their grip on us if I hold my breath.
Here we are, with plenty to unpack—like that pile of old fitness magazines gathering dust because I’m too busy juggling motherhood. I simply can’t waste precious moments trying to emulate those perfect poses on my living room floor. You may not understand, but I’m not just a flat image; I’m vibrant and real. And if this continues, there will only be more of me to love.
So, this is my love letter to you, dear belly. I want to celebrate every aspect of you. Your curves, your little dimples, and those side handles that seem to have a life of their own. I might not weigh any more than I used to, yet there they are, inviting someone to take charge. I embrace us—together, just the way we are; no more longing for the past, which is better left for sappy films and reality shows.
Belly, if you’ll allow me, let’s grow old together—literally! I believe that if we let ourselves (go), we can find true happiness.
