In 2014, a heartfelt initiative emerged, known as The Thanksgiving Initiative, sparked by a small group of mothers who openly shared their inability to afford Thanksgiving meals. A few compassionate readers stepped forward to lend a hand, with no grand ambitions—just a desire to make a meaningful impact in the lives of struggling families.
As word spread, the initiative gained momentum. More families reached out to share their challenges, while donations poured in, ranging from a few dollars to substantial contributions. This collective effort enabled over four hundred families to enjoy a Thanksgiving dinner that they otherwise would have missed, leading to the establishment of a charitable organization dedicated to this cause.
Every day, The Thanksgiving Initiative celebrates diverse perspectives from parents everywhere. Beneath our varied experiences lies a common thread: the profound love a parent has for their children. There is nothing more instinctively nurturing than the desire to provide for one’s family. This universal bond is the essence of the Thanksgiving Initiative, connecting us through our shared commitment to our children’s welfare. As of now, more than 4,500 families have benefited from this program. Last year, we received an astounding 2,765 applications and managed to assist every single one.
As we gear up for another round, we invite you to be part of The 2014 Thanksgiving Initiative! If you need assistance this holiday season, please apply here (applications closed on 11/1).
If you’re a blogger or active on social media, your help in spreading the word would be invaluable. Businesses looking to gain visibility while doing good should consider collaborating with us. Past recipients of assistance can be read about here.
For those who are in a position to help, donations are welcome. Just fifty dollars can provide a full Thanksgiving dinner; smaller or larger contributions are equally appreciated and will be combined with those of other donors to support multiple families.
Additionally, on November 17, just in time for the holiday season, we will release an e-book titled The Guide to Surviving the Holidays. A portion of the proceeds will go towards supporting The Thanksgiving Initiative. This must-have e-book features contributions from familiar voices across the community, making it a perfect gift from you to you this season.
Thank you for your support of The Thanksgiving Initiative in whatever way you can!
