Dear Young Adult,

Adult human female anatomy diagram chartAt home insemination

I want to take a moment to express my sincerest apologies for what you’re experiencing during this tumultuous phase of your life. While you’re navigating the challenges of adolescence, we find ourselves preoccupied with endless diaper changes, sleepless nights with the newborn, and managing the whims of a spirited toddler.

I regret that when you turn to us for homework assistance, we’re often entrenched in the chaos of bath time and toddler meltdowns. I understand how frustrating it must be to see us split our focus between cheering for you at your sports events and chasing after a little one intent on splashing in puddles or getting muddy.

I’m truly sorry that in moments when you’re eager to discuss your feelings about relationships or your quest for independence, the toddler is likely to be loudly repeating herself, drowning out your voice. It must be disheartening that every time you seek our attention, the baby seems to cry or require something urgent.

I apologize for the time it took for you to gain our trust to drive with the little ones in the car. We certainly didn’t mean to hinder your progress in getting your learner’s permit hours. I also regret that we can’t pick you up from the train station more often; we’re usually busy settling your baby brother or dozing off while waiting for your message.

I’m sorry if I’ve forgotten the details of your game schedule or anything else you’ve shared, simply because I haven’t had a full night’s sleep in what feels like forever. I can imagine how annoying it is to have little siblings chime in during your moments of reprimand, or to have your door flung open early in the morning with a loud “It’s time to wake up!”

I know you’d rather be surfing than building sandcastles or watching your siblings play on the beach. You probably wish we could have gone to see the latest action movie instead of opting for something more child-friendly like Cinderella. And I’m sure you’re tired of spending weekends at play centers and parks, instead of enjoying more thrilling activities like go-karting or skiing.

I understand your desire for some personal space and the need to be a carefree teenager, but unfortunately, that’s not something we can easily provide under our roof.

However, I will not apologize for the joy and laughter your little brother and sister express when they see you walk through the door. I won’t apologize for your sister’s incessant inquiries about your whereabouts, as she eagerly awaits your return from work or football practice. Their adoration for you is heartwarming, and I’m proud of the bond you all share.

I won’t apologize for the fact that your siblings look forward to spending time with you, often making it difficult for you to sleep in past 9 PM. Sharing your birthday with your brother is a special bond, and I cherish the countless moments captured in photographs with you as the doting big brother.

I won’t apologize for the responsibilities we place on you, as your maturity and reliability are traits we value deeply. You’ve been given the chance to re-experience childhood alongside your siblings, and you do it with such grace.

I’m grateful that your little sister took her first steps toward you, and I believe these experiences will shape you into an even better father one day. It’s true that we all must strive to be better people, as those little eyes are constantly watching and learning from you.

As you continue to grow into a remarkable young man, I want you to know how proud we are of your resilience and patience. These years can be challenging for both teenagers and parents, and we are thankful for your understanding and acceptance of our imperfect love.
