Dear Parent Who Loves Snow Days,

Adult human female anatomy diagram chartAt home insemination

I have to say, I admire your enthusiasm. However, I can’t quite wrap my head around it. You appear to be a regular person, but when a snow day is announced, you beam with joy. I feel the need to clarify how snow days really work, because it seems we are on different pages.

When school is canceled, the children remain at home with you. If your reaction to this fact is still “Yay!”, I can only conclude one of the following:

  1. You’re being sarcastic.
  2. You have a job outside the house.
  3. You employ a nanny.
  4. You have access to better medication than I do.
  5. Your kids have taken over and are speaking for you.

There must be no other explanation for your delight. To bridge the gap in our understanding, I’ll share why my response is more of a “Ugh!” than an exclamation of joy:

  1. I really don’t want to be a short-order cook all day.
  2. I need to write, but I can’t focus with the constant wailing over broken Rainbow Loom creations.
  3. I prefer to use the restroom without an audience.
  4. I feel guilty if I let my kids binge-watch movies or play video games all day, but the level of noise in the house is overwhelming.
  5. I have to share my precious snacks.

So, I hope you can see my perspective. If you’re too busy whipping up hot cocoa for a cozy blanket fort to empathize, I kindly ask: could I drop my kids off at your place? Just for the day, please. (Unless, of course, school is canceled again tomorrow.)

Best,
Lara

Summary

Enjoying snow days can be a challenge for parents who aren’t prepared for the chaos. While some parents find joy in the sudden break from routine, others feel overwhelmed by the demands of entertaining their children at home. Understanding these differing perspectives can help bridge the gap, especially during unexpected school cancellations.
