Recently, I bumped into a friend who had just welcomed a new baby. She looked incredible, with seemingly no trace of the baby weight left. “What’s your secret?” I inquired, unable to hide my jealousy.
“Oh, it’s simple,” she replied. “Chasing after my toddler and the newborn keeps me active, and I often forget to eat!”
That wasn’t the answer I was hoping to hear.
Time and again, I’ve encountered celebrities touting the same narrative, which drives me up the wall. I’m a mother of three, and I can assure you that I’m not sprinting after them. Sure, I might make a quick move if I hear a crash followed by silence, but that doesn’t happen often enough to break a sweat. I’m present with them every day, but I move at a leisurely pace. You wouldn’t call gently pushing a child on a swing a cardio workout.
And how does one forget to eat? That makes no sense! The closest I’ve come to skipping meals was during those long hours in a cubicle, completely isolated. Yet, babies and children have a relentless schedule of meals and snacks. As a mother, you’re surrounded by food—how could it ever slip your mind?
If you’ve managed to get your body back after having a baby, I’d appreciate a more honest response. Something like: “I’m starving and miserable, but I wanted to fit into these jeans again,” or “Breastfeeding? Best diet ever.” Perhaps, “I work out non-stop,” or “It’s just in my genes—my mom looked the same.” I’d even accept, “Honestly, I have no clue how it came off so quickly.” Even the frustrating “I’m eating less and moving more” would be more relatable than the “I forgot to eat” nonsense.
I’ve been through this journey, and I know the truth.

In summary, the narrative surrounding quick post-baby weight loss often lacks authenticity. Many mothers experience a different reality, filled with challenges and honest struggles. It’s essential to recognize that everyone’s journey is unique, and we should embrace the genuine experiences of motherhood.
