Being a mother, as my five-year-old likes to say, is “a big job.” No one really prepared me for what motherhood would entail; it’s been a journey of trial and error. Yet, I wouldn’t trade this experience for anything in the world. Sure, I might have fleeting thoughts of listing my kids on eBay to the highest bidder, but the truth is, my life would feel unbearably empty without them.
Who needs spontaneous happy hours with friends or dining at the latest trendy restaurant? Not me. Why would I choose to wear high heels and chic cocktail dresses for last-minute trips to Vegas when I have sweet baby kisses and warm cuddles from my little girls? Well, let’s be honest—I still indulge in those things from time to time, but they are much less frequent now that my home resembles a lively zoo.
When I stepped into motherhood, I discovered a profound kind of love that I had never known before: real, unconditional, and unwavering love. Growing up, my parents prioritized socializing and their own pursuits over family, leaving my brother and me to be raised “by a village.” While that village was filled with caring individuals, it lacked the unique bond that comes from a parent’s love—a connection that is deeply fulfilling.
Having neither of my parents around left a void, which made the experience of motherhood even more significant for me. I had no real frame of reference until I held my daughters for the first time—whether right after their birth or during precious moments of kangaroo care for my preemie twins. The emotional intensity of that moment is indescribable; it simply takes your breath away.
I cannot fathom loving anything more than my children. Although I cherish the thought of exciting getaways and European adventures, I find immense joy in family movie nights, even if it means swapping my stilettos for comfy pajamas.
Now, I have the opportunity to provide my children with the love and attention they deserve. I am incredibly grateful for the chance to be a mother and to offer them the stability and care that every child needs. I just hope I navigate this journey successfully. Wish me luck!
